I have been thinking a lot about AI and the impact on healthcare. On the one hand, this can help providers consider and strengthen a difference diagnosis. It can help minimize the need for memorization and trying to recall important facts about specific high risk diagnosis and needed treatments. AI can help keep people up to date on the latest interventions and treatments.
Yet, we have seen instances in which AI can hallucinate and misinform. If AI is the result of all that we have input into it, then we know that some of what has gone in is less than optimal. Combine that with the limits of the humans that program it, there are risks to the way we use it. Humans, need to have enough foundational knowledge to determine when the outputs of AI should be questioned. We need to start learning how to manage this tool.
So…as a start. A very limited start. Here is an article about children and critical thinking and how they can still outperform AI.
