The time to train to become a physician is considerable. Medical school, residency, sometime adding a fellowship. It’s a lot. The challenge then, is how to we maintain that level of competency as we spend years and years in practice. Many clinicians spend considerable time taking care of their patients and over time it can be difficult to stay up to date with the many new things that make their way into the healthcare system every year. Despite trying to keep up with continuing medical education and retesting for board certifications in cadences determined by the speciality organizations, it can be challenging to maintain competancy.
